There are endless articles in the newspapers at the moment deriding the communication skills of school leavers and graduates.

Everyone from university admissions panels to apprenticeship scheme leaders to business owners bemoans the lack of professionalism, soft skills and communication skills found in their latest applicants and recruits.

Employers complain that applicants lack ‘employability’: a combination of good communication, initiative and drive. This criticism applies not only to recent school leavers but also to highly academic university graduates without the social and interpersonal skills needed to integrate quickly at work.
